DMU services on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway are unfortunately set to end on 30th August when our contract expires.
Vehicles 52006 and 52025 will be going to the Avon Valley Railway in September while 52005, 59791 and 52031 will be going to the Nene Valley Railway. A home for 52012 and 51993 has not yet been found, but a group of members at Bolton Abbey are hoping this set will stay there with more people getting involved to finish the restoration.
TPO stowage van 80421 formerly used as a stores vehicle has regretably been scrapped even though it was in excellent condition as no sensible offers were received
Due to the termination of Class 107 Ltd's contract with the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway we are looking to sell, loan or hire our vehicles and spares. Any serious offers will be considered, but we need to have offers or proposals in by the end of April 2008 at the latest otherwise we may be forced to scrap our vehicles and sell the spares. Our vehicles comprise the following:
2 car Class 107 in good condition
2 car Class 107 in good condition
2 car Class 107 partly restored but non running
2 support coaches
2 stores vans

52006 and 52025 have returned to service at the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway following repairs. A final drive on 52025 was replaced and 52006 has been repainted.
52006 has been suffering intermittent battery problems following a period out of use on Wensleydale Railway. The fault has been traced to the Battery Isolating Switch which was sticking in the on position and discharging the batteries between one weekend and the next.
A new siding at Bolton Abbey was funded by Class 107 Ltd and all our vehicles are now based there. In addition to the running set we have a second set available for hire and the third awaiting restoration.
Substantial bodywork was carried out on 51993 at MRC by Lee Sharpe and a new engine was fitted by MRC staff in 2006, but there is much work still to do on the interior.
Recent work has concentrated on the two operational sets and various support vehicles leaving 51993 and 52012 (El Wrecko) sidelined for the time being.
Class 108 51572 has been sold to a private buyer and will be staying at the Wensleydale Railway.
All our DMU vehicles currently at the Wensleydale Railway are to be moved in the near future as we have terminated our contract with WR plc. 51993 has been moved from Bolton Abbey to the Midland Railway Centre, where it has received substantial body repairs.
52025 is still out of service, waiting to have the final drive gearbox replaced. The replacement final drive has been overhauled, and should be fitted early next year. 52025 has also received a freshly overhauled engine, which has been installed and test run in the last few weeks. Class 108 vehicle 51572 has seen continued use as a replacement while 52025 is repaired. It is currently running on only one engine, and is due to have the faulty engine replaced with an overhauled unit early next year.
Class 20, No. 20189, has now moved from Wensleydale to the Weardale Railway.
52025 is out of use with a recurrence of the final drive bearing failure that occurred last year. Discussions with the company that overhauled the drive are ongoing. 51572 has been repainted in green and will be in use from 11th August as a replacement while 52025 is repaired
52005 and 52031 have seen use for filming work at Embsay, whilst 52006 and 59791 have been in traffic daily at Wensleydale which is now operating to Redmire.
Allocation information for the Class 107s has been added to the web site. More Information
Class 107 Ltd have aquired a further DMU vehicle in the shape of class 108 No. 51572. This vehicle was first preserved at the East Kent Railway, together with two of our Class 107 vehicles. It has been moved to the Wensleydale Railway and will be used as back up for the Class 107. It still retains the Network South East Livery that it was in when first preserved.
On Friday 5th March His Royal Highness The Duke of York visited The Wensleydale Railway. He took a train journey from Leeming Bar to Leyburn on the Class 107 DMU, after meeting some of the local school children and talking with WR Volunteers. The below image shows the DMU displaying the royal head code.
Services had to be suspended on the Wensleydale Railway after 52025 suffered a severe final drive failure. It is thought a disintegrated bearing shell was to blame, which jammed the gearbox so that the vehicle was unable to be moved. Fortunately 52031 was able to be moved from Bolton Abbey at short notice, in order for passenger services to resume. 52025 has now left Leeming Bar for a period of two weeks. A reconditioned final drive gearbox is being fitted by a private engineering company, and it is hoped that 52025 can be back in service by the end of September.
It was hoped that the Class 110 DMU based at the Wensleydale Railway would be able to provide cover, to allow for maintenance work on the Class 107. However it still requires some minor works before it can be used in service. As the Class 110 uses the blue square coupling system, it would be possible to use a hybrid of 107 and 110 vehicles.
The vehicles at the Wensleydale Railway have seen intensive use over the Summer season. This has proved particularly difficult for 52025, which has only just been put back into use. It is hoped that the winter months may allow further work to take place on 52025, which requires a replacement engine.
